Route Optimisation Software That Plans the Whole Day

Stop planning routes by hand. Waybill sequences multi-stop trips and assigns them to the right driver and vehicle automatically — the shortest, fastest plan that still respects every time window, capacity limit and driver constraint.

Automated route planning for transport operators — from NDIS, patient and community transport to courier, delivery and commercial fleets. See one-click fleet-wide optimisation →

Manual Routing Quietly Burns Money Every Day

A dispatcher planning routes on a map and a spreadsheet does their best — but the best a human can do is a workable plan, not the optimal one. The gap is empty kilometres, wasted hours, and jobs that could have fit but didn't.

Empty Kilometres

Poor sequencing sends vehicles back and forth across the same area. Optimised routes collapse that backtracking into a single efficient path. Learn how to cut empty kilometres →

Wasted Driver Hours

Time spent driving a sub-optimal route is time not spent completing jobs. Tighter routes give you more capacity from the same fleet and roster.

The Human Ceiling

Sequencing a dozen stops across several vehicles is a hard maths problem — the vehicle routing problem. Software solves in seconds what a person can't hold in their head. What is the vehicle routing problem? →

Optimises for the Real World, Not Just Distance

A route that's shortest on the map but breaks a time window or overloads a vehicle is useless. Waybill balances every constraint at once to produce plans that actually run.

  • Stop sequencing — Multi-stop routes are ordered for the shortest realistic path, with correct pickup-before-dropoff logic.
  • Time windows — Required pickup and arrival times are respected, so appointments and deadlines aren't missed.
  • Vehicle capacity — Passenger counts, cargo and seating limits are honoured; overloading is never proposed.
  • Driver availability & hours — Shifts and maximum hours are checked so no driver is over-assigned.
  • Vehicle type — Wheelchair-accessible, stretcher-capable or other requirements are matched to the right assets.

You Stay in Control

Optimisation gives dispatchers a better starting point, not a locked decision. Every plan is previewed before anything goes live.

  • Preview before applying — See the proposed sequence, distance, time and per-job ETAs, then apply in one click or adjust first.
  • Clear exclusions — Any stop or job that couldn't be placed is listed with the exact reason: capacity, time window, or vehicle mismatch.
  • Respects manual assignments — Jobs you've already assigned by hand are preserved; only the rest is optimised around them.
  • Re-run any time — Added a job or a driver? Re-run and get a fresh plan in seconds.
Route optimisation vs fleet optimisation: this page covers sequencing and route planning. For one-click assignment of every pending job across your whole fleet, see Fleet Optimisation.

Route Optimisation FAQs

Route optimisation software calculates the most efficient way to sequence and assign trips — the order of stops, which driver takes which jobs, and the path between them — to minimise distance, time and fuel while respecting time windows, vehicle capacity and driver availability. Waybill does this for single multi-stop routes and across your entire fleet, turning a queue of jobs into an optimised plan in seconds.

Route optimisation focuses on the best sequence of stops for a route — the classic travelling-salesman and vehicle-routing problem. Fleet optimisation adds the assignment layer: deciding which of many drivers and vehicles should take which jobs across the whole operation. Waybill includes both — start with our route optimisation overview here, then see one-click, fleet-wide assignment on the Fleet Optimisation page.

Operators moving from manual planning to algorithmic route optimisation typically cut total driving distance by 15–30%, with matching reductions in fuel and overtime. Tighter routes also mean each driver completes more jobs per shift, adding capacity without adding vehicles.

Yes. Waybill sequences multi-stop routes with correct pickup and dropoff ordering, respects each stop's required time window, and accounts for vehicle capacity and passenger requirements. Stops that can't be served are flagged with the reason why, so nothing fails silently.

No. Live GPS gives the most accurate travel times, but Waybill falls back gracefully — from GPS position to vehicle depot, to driver home address, to your organisation depot — so vehicles without live tracking still get reliable route plans. Only vehicles with no location data at all are excluded, and you are warned about them.
