Replace expensive fixed routes with flexible, stop-based transport. Passengers book a ride, walk to the nearest stop, and your fleet serves only the stops that are needed — when they're needed.

Stop-Based Routing, Not Door-to-Door

Traditional demand-responsive transport tries to pick up every passenger at their front door. That sounds great until your driver is zigzagging across suburbs for single pickups.

Waybill's DRT takes a smarter approach: passengers walk to the nearest predefined stop, and drivers follow efficient stop-to-stop routes. The result is faster service, lower costs, and better coverage.

  • Predefined stops — Schools, hospitals, shopping centres, community hubs, bus shelters. Set up once, reuse forever.
  • Automatic stop matching — When a job is created, Waybill finds the nearest stop to the passenger's address and calculates walking distance.
  • Walking distance limits — Configure maximum walking distance per organisation (default 2 km). Stops beyond the limit aren't matched.
  • Favourite stops — Mark frequently-used stops as favourites. They appear instantly in the address field for quick selection.

Manage Stops Your Way

Stops aren't one-size-fits-all. Waybill gives you full control over where your vehicles pick up and drop off passengers.

  • Stop categories — Group stops by type: schools, hospitals, shopping centres, community centres. Each category can be marked as a favourite or meeting point.
  • Per-stop overrides — A stop inherits its category's favourite and meeting point flags, but you can override them individually when needed.
  • Service area linking — Assign stops to service areas so drivers only see stops in their operating zone.
  • In-use protection — Stops being used by active jobs can't have their location changed. Create a new stop instead — no accidental route disruptions.
Tip: Start with a few key stops (hospitals, schools, stations) and expand as demand grows. You don't need hundreds of stops on day one.

Favourite Stops for Quick Booking

Your dispatchers create dozens of jobs per day. Typing the same hospital or school address every time wastes time and introduces errors.

Favourite stops appear directly in the address field when creating or editing a job. Start typing and your most-used stops appear above Map Places results — with the exact coordinates already saved.

  • Instant access — Favourite stops show as soon as you focus the address field. No minimum characters needed.
  • Search filtering — Type a name, address, or stop code to narrow results. Filtering happens on the server, keeping the interface fast.
  • Automatic stop ID — Selecting a favourite stop sets the stop ID directly, skipping the nearby-stop lookup. Zero walking distance, zero guesswork.
  • Category inheritance — Mark an entire category as favourite (e.g., all hospitals), or override individual stops. Flexible and low-maintenance.

Stop-Based Per Job Type

Not every transport job belongs on a stop-based route. A school run makes perfect sense with fixed stops. A courier delivery needs to reach the exact address.

Waybill lets you control which job types use stop-based routing and which use door-to-door — per organisation.

  • Smart defaults — Passenger transport, school runs, airport transfers, and charters default to stop-based. Freight, courier, and patient transport default to door-to-door.
  • Org-level overrides — Change any job type's stop-based behaviour in organisation settings. Community transport operators might make everything stop-based; disability transport operators might make everything door-to-door.
  • Automatic UI adaptation — Walking distance chips, stop markers, and walking route lines only appear on the dispatch map for stop-based job types. Door-to-door jobs show the direct route.
  • Reporting always captures stops — Even for door-to-door jobs, the nearest stop is recorded for analytics. You can track which areas generate the most demand without changing the driver's route.

Passenger Books a Ride

A job is created with the passenger's home address. Waybill automatically finds the nearest active stop and calculates walking distance.

Fleet Optimisation

The optimisation engine groups nearby stop pickups together. Multiple passengers heading to similar stops can share one vehicle and route.

Driver Follows Stop Route

The driver receives a clean stop-to-stop route. No detours down residential streets — just efficient transit between defined points.

Passenger Walks to/from Stop

Passengers walk a short distance (configurable max) to and from their assigned stops. Walking distances are tracked and visible on the dispatch map.

Configurable Walking Distance

Set the maximum walking distance per organisation. Urban areas might allow 500m; rural areas might allow 2 km. Stops beyond the limit are excluded from matching.

Meeting Point Stops

Mark stops as meeting points where passengers can safely wait. Non-meeting-point stops are excluded from passenger matching but still available for driver routing.

Stop Codes

Assign short codes to stops (e.g., "HOSP-01", "SCH-03") for quick identification in runsheets, invoices, and driver instructions.

Dispatch Map Integration

The dispatch map shows stop markers, walking routes (dashed lines from passenger address to stop), and walking distance chips for stop-based jobs.

Works With Fleet Optimisation

DRT stop-to-stop routes integrate directly with fleet-wide optimisation. The VRP solver uses stop coordinates instead of passenger addresses for more efficient grouping.
