Driver Fatigue Management

Track driver hours in real time, enforce daily limits, and get automatic warnings before fatigue becomes a safety risk. Built for HVNL Chain of Responsibility compliance.

Real-Time Hours Tracking

Waybill automatically calculates driver hours from completed jobs throughout the day. No manual timesheets, no guessing — just accurate, real-time data that updates as jobs are completed.

  • Automatic calculation — Hours are derived from job completion data. As drivers finish jobs, their running total updates automatically.
  • Configurable daily max — Set maximum hours per day for each driver individually. Default is 12 hours, adjustable per driver based on their role and regulations.
  • Break detection — The system detects gaps between jobs and records rest breaks. Minimum break duration is configurable per organisation.
  • Visual progress indicator — A colour-coded progress bar shows each driver's hours at a glance — green for OK, amber for approaching limit, red when at limit.
Driver Fatigue — James Wilson OK
Hours Today 9.5 / 12.0 hrs
Status OK — 79%
Jobs Completed 6 today
Last Break 25 min (12:15 – 12:40 PM)
Max Hours 12.0 hrs / day

Three-Tier Warning System

Fatigue risk is managed through three clear status levels. Each level triggers different responses — from informational indicators to blocking new assignments — so dispatchers always know the current risk.

  • OK (green) — Driver is below 80% of their daily maximum. Normal operations. No action needed.
  • Warning (amber) — Driver has reached 80% of their maximum. A visual warning appears on the dispatch board and driver profile. Dispatchers are alerted to plan accordingly.
  • Limit Reached (red) — Driver has reached or exceeded their maximum hours. New job assignments can be optionally blocked to prevent over-scheduling.
  • Assignment blocking — When enabled, the system prevents assigning new jobs to fatigued drivers. This is configurable per organisation — some operators prefer warnings only.

Sarah Chen 10.2 / 12 hrs — Warning

Mark Taylor 12.0 / 12 hrs — Limit Reached

Compliance & Audit Trail

Every fatigue event is logged with timestamps and event types, creating an audit-ready record of your fatigue management practices. Essential for HVNL Chain of Responsibility compliance.

  • Event logging — Job completions, shift starts, warnings issued, limits reached, and breaks detected are all recorded in the fatigue log.
  • Date range filtering — Review fatigue history for any driver over any period. Useful for compliance reviews, incident investigations, and trend analysis.
  • HVNL/COR support — The fatigue management system helps operators meet their Chain of Responsibility obligations under the Heavy Vehicle National Law.
  • Exportable records — Fatigue logs provide the documentation needed for regulatory audits and compliance reviews.
Fatigue Log — James Wilson
Job Completed 3:45 PM — 1.5 hrs added (total: 9.5 hrs)
Break Detected 12:15 PM — 25 min rest break
Warning Issued 2:10 PM — 80% threshold reached
Shift Active 6:00 AM — Day started

Fatigue Management Capabilities

Configurable Thresholds

Set warning thresholds per organisation (default 80%) and maximum daily hours per driver. Different roles and regulations get different limits.

Break Detection

Automatic detection of rest breaks between jobs. Minimum break duration is configurable (default 15 minutes) so short gaps don't count as breaks.

Assignment Blocking

Optionally prevent new job assignments when a driver reaches their limit. Dispatchers see a clear indicator and can choose an alternative driver.

Org-Level Settings

Configure warning thresholds, blocking behaviour, and minimum break duration at the organisation level. Every team can enforce their own fatigue policy.

Copilot Integration

The Dispatch Copilot automatically surfaces fatigue warnings as proactive insights, suggesting driver reassignment before limits are reached.

Audit-Ready Logs

Every fatigue event is timestamped and logged. Filter by date range, event type, and driver for compliance reviews and incident investigations.
